Zakaria Metalsi

Zakaria Metalsi is a fourth-year medical student at Utrecht University in the Netherlands with a strong interest in education and plastic surgery. During his studies, he has been involved in a variety of clinical and research activities, including work as a research student at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UMC Utrecht, focusing on lower extremity nerve decompression in patients with diabetes. He is currently engaged as a research fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Teunis.

Zakaria has gained practical experience through roles in internal medicine and as a teaching assistant in anatomy and radiology. He has also worked as a transplant technician, assisting in kidney transplant procedures and perfusion technology.

Passionate about accessibility in medical education, Zakaria is actively involved with Medician Utrecht, a program that supports first-generation and underprivileged students preparing for medical school admissions. In his free time, he enjoys swimming, going to the gym, and hiking.
