Nienke Krijnen received her Medical Degree at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After graduating, she worked at the General Surgery Department at Gelderse Vallei, Ede. During her medical school, she developed a strong interest in Plastic Surgery, which made her start researching autologous breast reconstructions.
She is currently doing a PhD at the Plastic Surgery department at University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU). Her PhD program focuses on peripheral nerve injuries in the upper extremity. Trauma in the upper extremity can have devastating consequences. She is engaged as a research fellow in clinical nerve studies with Dr. Teunis, aiming to advance our understanding and improve outcomes for patients with peripheral nerve injuries.
In her free time, she enjoys running, dancing, swimming, and crocheting. Furthermore, she loves to travel and has done several internships abroad (Malawi, Suriname, Peru). As a real Dutchie, you can mostly find her arriving and leaving the UPMC buildings on her bike.
