Maddox Smith, BS

Maddox Smith is a clinical research fellow with the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Under the mentorship of Dr. Teun Teunis and Dr. Kacey Marra, he is contributing to both basic science and clinical outcomes research. His current projects include evaluating radial nerve recovery after humerus fracture, as well as conducting a retrospective outcomes study on treatment strategies for first carpometacarpal joint dislocation.

Originally from Long Island, NY, Maddox earned his degree in Environmental Health from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, graduating in three years with highest honors. He has a diverse background in healthcare and public service, including experience as an EMT, tissue recovery technician, and summer camp healthcare director. His clinical interests span the scope of plastic surgery including reconstructive microsurgery, craniofacial reconstruction, and  gender affirming surgeries.

Outside the lab, Maddox serves his community by running an organization for opioid overdose prevention. In his free time he enjoys rock climbing, watching football, and hunting down the best sushi spots.
