Elou Kingma, MD

  • Research Fellow

Elou obtained her medical degree at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, where she developed a strong interest in Plastic Surgery. What excites her most about the field is how it combines anatomical knowledge with creativity. She is particularly fascinated by hand surgery, due to the complex anatomy and refined biomechanics of the hand and wrist.

She is currently doing a PhD as part of a collaborative program between the UPMC, Amsterdam UMC, and Erasmus MC. Her research focuses on outcomes of carpal traumatic injuries, with a special interest in perilunate instability. These complex injuries require a deep understanding of the wrist and are clinically challenging. During her time in Amsterdam, Elou conducted research using 4DCT, an innovative imaging technique that visualizes wrist kinematics, particularly of the carpal bones during motion.

Outside the hospital, Elou loves to travel, read, run, draw, and cook.
