Armin earned his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He completed his internship year at high-volume tertiary referral centers in Tehran, Iran, where he gained broad experience in surgery, emergency medicine, and internal medicine including trauma care, procedural skills, and perioperative management. During medical school, Armin pursued research on skin flap survival, combining microsurgical techniques with pharmacology and downstream signaling pathways in rodent models, which sparked his strong interest in regenerative medicine and reconstructive surgery.
Armin joined the Synthetic Morphogenetics & Tissue Ecology Lab (Ebrahimkhani Lab) at the University of Pittsburgh in 2022, where he expanded his expertise in regenerative medicine through stem cell biology, synthetic biology, and bioengineering. He contributed substantially to an NIH R01–funded project, leading in vitro and in vivo studies and performing numerous transplantations, which resulted in a U.S. patent application and multiple publications. He later served as a clinical research scholar in the Division of Surgical Oncology at UPMC, working closely with robotic oncologic surgeons and a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, radiologists, and radiotherapists. Over the course of a year, he actively coordinated biospecimen collection from pancreatic cancer patients, processed samples in the laboratory, and managed large clinical databases, further deepening his surgical insights and clinical research expertise.
Armin is now a research fellow in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UPMC, working in the Microvascular Reconstruction Research Lab under the mentorship of Dr. Mario Solari. His research focuses on microsurgical reconstruction, vascularized composite allotransplantation, extracorporeal perfusion system, and tissue engineering and regeneration. He is dedicated to bridging experimental models with clinical application to advance innovation and outcomes in reconstructive surgery.
Outside the lab, Armin enjoys strength training, designing evidence-based diet plans, raising his cats, coffee brewing and specialty coffee exploration, spending time with friends, hiking, and off-roading.
Armin has co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a peer reviewer for several journals in plastic surgery.
