Anna Bazell is a fourth-year medical student who is completing a research fellowship under the guidance of Drs. Kacey G. Marra and Carolyn De La Cruz for the 2025-2026 academic year. She has been a member of the department’s Peripheral Nerve Lab since 2023, where she and the team have investigated the utilization of various biocompatible materials to facilitate peripheral nerve repair. Her research interests include tissue regeneration, adult craniofacial trauma and facial aesthetics, and medical education.
Anna was raised in the suburbs of Chicago and ran track competitively throughout high school. She attended the University of South Carolina for her undergraduate degree, where she majored in Biology and minored in Criminal Justice. She is a current student at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville (USC SOMG) and has held multiple leadership roles throughout her time at USC SOMG. Anna was chosen as one of five medical students in her class to be inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) society during her M3 year of medical school, and she currently serves on her chapter’s leadership team.
In her free time, Anna fulfills her days as washed-up high school athlete working out at the gym. She loves reading, learning about law, and nerding out over World’s Strongest Man competitions, UFC, and Stardew Valley.
