Alexis M. Henderson, MPH

  • Clinical Research Fellow

Alexis Henderson is a research fellow in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and an MD candidate at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (anticipated 2028). She is a participant in the school’s Clinical Scientist Training Program.

Alexis conducts clinical research in burn care under the mentorship of Dr. Francesco Egro. Her work examines how social and geographic factors influence outcomes after acute burn injury, evaluates surgical and wound care approaches for lower extremity burns, and explores the emerging role of artificial intelligence in burn assessment. More broadly, her interests include health equity, medical education, and surgical outcomes.

Alexis is also committed to education and pathway programs. She contributed significantly to EDUPlast, a plastic surgery symposium series for local underrepresented learners, and has taught and mentored students from middle school through pre-medical levels through the Youth Surgical Academy and the SNMA Clinical Shadowing Mentorship Program.

Her research has been presented at national meetings, including the American Burn Association Annual Meeting, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting, and the Plastic Surgery Research Council.

Alexis holds an MPH in Epidemiology with a Certificate in Health Equity and a BA in Sociology, both from the University of Pittsburgh. She serves on the department’s Cultural M&M Committee.
